AVA Media: the third of May 2024 is world press Freedom Day. This day is celebrated in the world as the media in the country has witnessed years of ups and downs.

Ms. Mette Knudsen, the UN secretary General’s deputy special representative for Afghanistan, said that journalist who remain in the country and still work with dedication and live under fear and intimidation. She said women journalist carry the heaviest burden.

This week Afghan journalist and media advocates joined UMANA and UNESCO celebrated of world press Freedom Day, to pave the way for exchange of views on the shrinking and limitation of media space in Afghanistan and its solution, she said. “On the world press Freedom Day, and every day, we continue to support media initiative and woman journalist who work to advance women’s right and gender equality.”

Reporters without borders has released a press-released list on world press Freedom Day. According to this list, Syria has 17.41 points in the 179th place and Rithy Ria with 16.64 in the 180th place. According to Reporters without Borders, Afghanistan has fallen 26 places due to the death and detention of journalists in the press freedom sector. This organization added that the media are now required to broadcast information run by the current Taliban government.

It is said that every year on May 3 the World Press Freedom Day celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom in the world, but in Afghanistan, the situation of the media and journalists has been extremely alarming.
