Faridullah Mohammadi, Mitra Majidi and Nasir Ahmad Salehi, reporters of TOLO News, Mohammad Tahir Ahmadi, reporter of Rakhshana Media, and Mohammad Amin Kawa, reporter of Hasht-e Sobh newspaper, were selected as journalists of the year 2024.

Ahmad Qureshi, the executive director of the Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC), said “More than 40 national and local media participated in this competition, and the reports of the participants were reviewed by the jury of this competition.”

He also added, Amin Kawa's research report from Hasht_e_Sobh newspaper about "What is the story of Mirwais Azizi and Haji Abdul Ahad?", Mitra Majidi's report about working children, Nasir Ahmad Salehi's report about the problem of water shortage in Farah province, Tahir Ahmadi's report about The situation of Afghan immigrants in Pakistan and Faridullah Mohammadi's interview with the Taliban's defense minister won this award.

The awards ceremony was held in person and online on the 5th of April 2024 at 9:00-7:30 pm Kabul time in Brussels. A number of Afghan journalists and representatives of some media and international organizations supporting journalists also participated in this program.

Journalist of the Year program has been held every year since 2014 for nearly a decade on the occasion of National Journalist Day.
